so now people are for one party depending on what thier mpg is? Im sure lots of those hot rods mr ness drives arent the most fuel efficient. I know my 55' isnt. and both me and ness aren't bush supporters. C'mon now thats silly.

If this country really wants to make some progress, then both Ness and you shouldn't drive those cars. I am assuming you wanted an honest answer. If our country doesn't strive to get rid of our oil addiction, then we will be in a shitstorm in the not so far future.

And what if you own your own construction type business ( drywall, framing, stuctual steel, painting, concrete...) ? You fucking simple minded fucks think you can haul your materials with a honda civic ? Go back to you professor and tell him about the realities of building this beautiful society you fucks live in and resent. Its not our fault that the automotive buisiness hasn't been forced to adopt alternative fuels. Them fucks know they have the technology to run cars on fucking water and they are so vested in the oil/gas industry that there hasn't been much progress beyond a fuckin hybrid or two in the past twenty years is fuckin pathetic. Don't criticize the small buisiness owner for having to deal with the expenses of doing business criticize the lazy fucks who dont carpoool to school or to their office jobs. !

I agree, as of now we need the oil, I personally didn't criticize small business owner for driving reasonable pickups. But, although it may be unfortunate, these business owners will not be able to burn gas forever, that's not up to me, that's up to the oil supply on our planet. It sucks, I know, but unless our society as a whole cuts back in a major way, the end of the world as we know it will continue to approach.

The truth is, in 20 years, we'll all be driving hydrogen-powered cars. The technology is coming, but it's just not ready yet. Electricity really isn't a feasible solution, based on everything I've read. You just can't get enough horsepower to move a real car, hence the size and appearance of the hybrids.

But the real problem isn't with the average individual consumer. The big three domestic auto manufacturers just aren't putting enough money into the development of cars run on alternative fuels. There's no reason they should either, because it doesn't make any sense, financially-speaking. The best solution is through incentives from congress and a couple of government agencies, especially the EPA.

Until our government gives Ford, GM, and DC a monetary reason to change, it won't happen. And our government won't pressure them to change until people actually care and make it an election issue. Right now, it's trendy to talk shit to people in trucks and SUVs, but that doesn't solve anything.

Relating a truck- or SUV-driver's vehicle choice to apathy about the environment, especially without knowing the background and context of the choice, is about the same as those commercials that called 15-year-olds terrorists for smoking weed.

Personally, I don't believe that we are moving toward hydrogen. From what I have heard this is maybe 40-50 years down the line as far as mass production goes...

Is it just me or is the mention of "hydrogen power" just the corporate or corporate sympathizer's method of inaction?

When environmentalists make noise, the corporate answer is shot back immediately, "Hydrogen power is being developed, we will have it in 30 years." To me, that's just lazy and irresponsible. The public needs to be educated about our problem on oil dependency. A movement has to start to cut back NOW before hydrogen becomes a reality.
